Many Masks of the Nintendo Gaming

The ex-Square employees that make up the GBA development house Brownie Brown seem very sure that they’ve got a good thing. Speaking to The Nintendo Project, company president Shinichi Kameoka had this to say: “We are sure we’ll never make you disappointed.” That’s always good to hear, and somewhat typical of a Nintendo-owned company… but more than likely it’s very true, also in typical Nintendo fashion. The company’s first title, Magical Vacation, is said to be a network compatible game and will be released for Game Boy Advance in the summer of 2001. I’m really anxious to see the Brownie Brown logo. Somehow I’m expecting baked goods.

Gold & Silver Surpass One Million

As sure as the sun will rise and set, and the moon will crash into the Earth in three days, Pokemon Gold and Silver have surpassed one million sales in just one week — 1.4 million, to be more precise. Of course, this is a combined number. As usual, Peter Main had some good things to say about the numbers and Pokemon in general. With sales like this, one has to wonder if the phenomenon will ever end. Perhaps a GBA-based Pokemon Platinum is what the franchise needs to survive another hundred years on top?

No Gamecube Conference Date

Nintendo will be having a Gamecube developer’s conference sometime soon, but no date has been set. It’s almost inevitable that leaks will come out of the conference in much the same fashion as they did when the Game Boy Advance conference was held. IGN64 thinks it has one idea as to why the date hasn’t been set, and that has to do with development hardware. Click the link below for more. That’s why they’re there!

Nintendo Talks Gamecube

But vaguely. CoreMagazine.com recently posted an interview with Nintendo’s managing director, Hiroshi Imanishi. When asked about the ease of Gamecube development, Imanishi replied with, “Gamecube software can be developed within six months to a year, which is much shorter than the average 18-month development cycle. However, we don’t want to inundate the market with software.” He went on, “By allowing developers the opportunity to create software easily, we don’t want them to release substandard titles either.” He also went on to say that the Gamecube is being released in July (in Japan), because “The Gamecube hardware is finished, and we’re working hard to finish the initial software lineup. So releasing the machine between both of those periods is part of our sales strategy. Also, players can enjoy Gamecube during their summer vacation.” Catch the interview at the link below.

Golden Sun Animation

NintendoWeb.com recently posted some animated gifs of the pseudo-3D battle sequence found in the GBA launch title Golden Sun. The game is highly anticipated because it’s from no less than Camelot, the developer behind such triple-A titles as Mario’s Tennis and Mario Golf. Only one question remains… Why hasn’t Nintendo acquired it as a second party?

Twine Is Not Enough

Just as The World Is Not Enough was no GoldenEye in theaters, the TWINE videogame retread is no Rare masterpiece on the N64. Earning a very disappointing MISS rating, the game stands as a distant second choice to Ogre Battle 64, which some RPG fans have named one of their “favorite N64 games ever!” But the big buy news this week doesn’t have anything to do with ogres or secret agents. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is about to make its North American debut on Thursday the 26th. The wait for a triple-A title is almost over.
